Before we start, I want you to stop. Stop and truly listen to this song. I Dreamed A Dream from the newest musical sensation to hit the box office, Les Miserables. How amazing was Anne Hathaway in this by the way?
This song asks you to dig, dig deep. To the darkest place your heart allows you to go. How once everything was full of excitement and promise and laughter and happiness and love. And then, all of a sudden it was gone.
I’m not only talking about love here, I’m talking about life. Those days when it feels like nothing and no one is going to lift your spirits. When you can be surrounded by hundreds of people, and still feel like the only person on this earth. When you feel so helpless that as hard as you try, you just can’t see that light. I think the word is despair. Despair, and pain and sorrow. How wonderfully all three of these emotions are translated through this song.
And those of you sitting there on your high horse saying, ‘Pfft! I’ve never felt like that’- Well I have one of two things to say to you:
1-Good. I’m really glad you’ve never felt like that because quite frankly it feels like shit.
Or 2-Liar.
Take a moment, enjoy it. Revel in it. I give you permission to indulge in the dark side and lose yourself in the agony of life.
It makes me wonder, where did she get her inspiration from? How did she get that feeling in the first place?
Someone go give the girl a hug! I’ll pop the kettle on…
