It’s like learning to ride a bike…in Hoi An

The sea is near, you can feel it.  Tomorrow we head to the beach.

Hoi An has a wonderful vibe to it.  Chilled.  Held back.  Languid.  At ease.

We’re at the pool side just now.  Above me is a blanket of stars.  Beside me, there is traditional music playing over the trees somewhere.  A dog barks.  L is dipping her toe in the water.  We’re fed, we’re watered.  We’ve people watched all over the market, indulging in laughing at how kids are the same everywhere. We did not suit shop, it just didn’t feel like something we wanted to do.  Instead L bought a hat – better be prepared for tomorrow eh?

The wander down Hoi An and near the river was fantastic.  Lights and lanterns.  Colour and vibrancy.  Actually, it was perfect.  The air cool, the vibe glowing.

We were given free bikes at the Sunshine hotel.  I made my confession to L – I never got a big girl bike…

So she took charge.  Guided with map in hand.  I just focussed on not falling off.  And actually, at one point I was genuinely enjoying it.  Though balance does seem to be a problem now and then.

Still, I smiled at myself as we manoeuvred traffic lights, buses, motorbikes and cars – why not just throw yourself in at the deep end?!

I’m chilling now.  I can’t believe how much I’ve slept.  We’re heading to Hanoi tomorrow.  We actually probably won’t have a lot of time there itself, more as a base for Halong Bay and Sa Pa.

More when we know.
